Tortuga Bay to Undergo Complete Renovation

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - May 4, 2017

Tortuga Bay, the boutique hotel that is considered the grande dame of Dominican Republic hotels, is getting a complete renovation, the Puntacana Resort & Club announced.

The boutique property designed by the late Oscar de la Renta will begin the renovation beginning in July, with de la Renta’s wife, Annette de la Renta, set to collaborate on the redesign with Haydée Kuret de Rainieri and acclaimed designer Markham Roberts.

“Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club has long been a source of pride for the Dominican Republic. It is the perfect expression of Oscar de la Renta’s style and sensibility,” said Haydée Rainieri, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at Grupo Puntacana. “Annette de la Renta and Markham Roberts are the ideal team to refresh Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club, by carrying forward Oscar de la Renta’s vision.”

The property includes 13 villas, each of which will be refreshed with updated design and new technology, along with a wider planned new aesthetic for the resort, including a new kitchen and a new bakery for Tortuga Bay’s Bamboo Restaurant.

The hotel will also add a new wine cellar with 600 bottles of wine, a humidor with a wide range of cigars, a renovated bar and new fitness equipment.

Tortuga Bay will also add a new lounge to accommodate early arrivals and departures.

“The chance to work closely with Haydée Rainieri and Annette de la Renta is a privilege,” said Markham Roberts. “Oscar de la Renta holds a special place in the history of the Dominican Republic, and his expression of Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club is the reason why it is such an iconic hotel. We are all thrilled at the opportunity to bring Tortuga Bay at Puntacana Resort & Club to the next level of luxury and comfort.”
