IHG Expands in Mexico

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - April 9, 2016

InterContinental Hotels Group is expanding in the region again.

The company has opened a new 188-room Holiday Inn in the state of Guanajuato.

The Holiday Inn & Suites Leon Plaza Mayor follows an investment of more than $14.6 million, and jois three other IHG properties in the city.

The hotel includes a heated swimming pool and meeting capacity for up to 600 people.

It also features a restaurant, La Cava, a Mexican-Mediterranean fusion eatery.

“Leon is a growing market, and the Holiday Inn brand is a great addition to the city’s financial area,” said Gerardo Murray, Vice President, Brands and Marketing, Mexico, Latin America and The Caribbean. “Whether guests are traveling for business or to visit many of Leon’s cultural and historical sites such as the Basilica, the Templo Expiatorio or the Museum of Art and History, we know they’ll have an enjoyable stay from the moment they arrive and experience the hotel’s great facilities, unmatched comfort and convenience.”

Mexico is the fastest-growing hotel development market in the wider region, leading in the number of hotels under construction, according to recent data from analytics firm STR.
