Starwood Continuing Latin America-Caribbean Expansion

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - April 6, 2016

Starwood is planning another hotel in the region.

The Westin Monterrey hotel in Mexico is slated to debut in 2019, part of a wider expansion in Latin America and the Caribbean for the company.

The property is developed by Desarrollos Missouri, and will be managed by Starwood.

Westin has existing hotels in Mexico in Mexico DF, Guadalajara, Los Cabos, Cancun and Puerto Vallarta.

“We are thrilled to bring the Westin brand to Monterrey, another vibrant, bustling city in Mexico that continues to be our top-performing market in Latin America,” said Jorge Giannattasio, Senior Vice President and Chief of Latin American Operations for Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “Developers and guests recognize the power of Westin; from our iconic Heavenly Bed to our Gear Lending partnership with New Balance, we will ensure guests leave feeling better than when they arrived.”

The 180-room hotel will include a rooftop pool, a Heavenly Spa and two restaurants.

The are 14 Westin-branded hotels in the Latin America and Caribbean region, with the Westin Cozumel set to open off the Caribbean coast of Mexico later this year.

“Mexico continues to be the bright spot for development in Latin America, and we are on track to reach more than 40 hotels by 2020,” said Victor Vazquez, Vice President of Development for Starwood Latin America. “Westin has a robust presence in Mexico, with urban and leisure hotels in the country’s main destinations and continues to be one of the most sought-after brands by developers and guests in this thriving market.”
