Grenada Tourism Continues Growth

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 10, 2016

Grenada is showing continued growth in the tourism sector, according to the newest numbers from the Grenada Tourism Authority.

The tri-island country received 140,735 stayover visitors in 2015, a 5.4 percent increase from 2014.

The US represented the largest source market for Grenada, with 41 percent of all stayover visitors.

“The increase to daily flights from Miami, and added weekly flights from New York and Atlanta positively correlated with the growth seen from the USA. These routes and frequencies expanded the potential of connecting flights from other US cities, Canada, and European countries,” said Esther Thomas, manager of research and planning at the GTA.

Grenada also saw a 5 percent increase in stayover visitors from the United Kingdom, although it showed a 13.4 percent reduction in traffic from Canada.

The latter was the result of “an inconsistency of airlift from Canada,” Thomas said.
