CANCUN — Caribbean Journal recently got an inside look at the new Hyatt Ziva Cancun, the newest Cancun all inclusive resort and the latest addition to Hyatt’s growing all-inclusive portfolio in the region.

The family-friendly resort bills itself as the region’s only hotel surrounded on three sides by the Caribbean Sea.

The property has a total of 547 rooms, all of which are suites, although there are 15 room categories ranging from basic 483-square-foot suites with garden views to the 4,381-square-foot Hyatt Club Level presidential suite.

The food is equally diverse, with nine restaurants and six bars and lounges, including an Italian “cucina” a French brasserie and an Asian sushi and teriyaki restaurant — that’s along with fare like a diner called Chevy’s and Mexican eateries like Habaneros.

And it’s the little things that really stand out — the microbrewery, the pasteles dessert shop, the coffee shop, the little details that take ordinary all-inclusive offerings and raise the bar.

The amenities are wide, from three infinity pools (including an adults-only pool) to the Caribbean’s only on-site resort microbrewery, Tres Cervezas, offering artisan beer and an on-site brewmaster; there is also a soon-to-debut dolphin pool.

We really liked the concept of the microbrewery — something more Caribbean resorts should try; this one also servds food — we really enjoyed the brewery’s wings, which were definitely worth the trip.

All in all, this is a very beautiful hotel and set on a very nice strip of beach in Cancun. It’s a welcome, creative addition to the Caribbean’s all-inclusive sector.

Some of the particular standouts

Tres Cervezas, the microbrewery

El Mercado, the buffet restaurant

The lobby bar, Saasil

Juana Margarita, the tequila sampling bar

Casa del Cafe, a great coffee spot

Nightlife, particularly good for an all-inclusive
