Colombia-based Avianca is planning to introduce twice-weekly nonstop flights between Bogotá and Barbados.

The new flights, which begin Dec. 2, will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays between El Dorado International Airport and the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. CEO,William Griffith said the new service was welcomed by their Latin American tour operator partners.

“This service will allow multigenerational travelers and those seeking a romantic getaway to plan three, four or seven-day trips, which we see as critical for the long-term success of this exciting new service,” he said. “We believe this service will also attract travelers from nearby South American cities seeking a convenient connection to Bridgetown.”

He said that BTMI’s flight strategy was focused on expansion of the island’s presence in the market by working with a carrier with a broader flight network.

The new Avianca service will enable connections between Barbados and Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Panama City, Mexico, Lima, San Salvador, Guayaquil, and Quito via Bogota.
