CARIFESTA Comes to Haiti

The Caribbean’s top cultural festival begins Friday

CARIFESTA, the Caribbean’s top regional cultural event, officially begins on Friday.

The 12th edition of the festival, which last took place in Suriname in 2013, is being held across five cities in Haiti.

The country is welcoming destinations from around the Caribbean and the world that have sent artists, musicians, dancers and writers to show off their talent on the regional stage.

That includes delegations from all 15 CARICOM member states and associate members like Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands.

And it will of course include some of Haiti’s biggest arts and music stars, including Tabou Combo, Emeline Michel, James Germain, Bethova Obas and more.

The first major event will be called “Memory Sharing,” hosted at the MUPANAH museum in Port-au-Prince on Thursday ahead of the grand opening at the Grand Market in the Champ de Mars on Friday.

CARIFESTA, which was held for the first time in 1972, runs Aug. 21-30.
