The Bahamas leads the Caribbean region with a total of 2,670 rooms in five hotels under construction, while Mexico has the most rooms under construction in the wider region with 39 hotels totaling 6,291 rooms, according to the latest STR Construction Pipeline Report.

The region reported a total of 10,148 rooms in 53 hotels under construction for the month.

There were 165 hotels totaling 29,233 rooms under contract in the wider region through the end of March, according to a report from STR.

That represented a 9.7 percent increase in rooms under contract compared to March 2014, and a 9 percent decrease in rooms under contract.

The vast majority of the Bahamas’ rooms, of course, come from the Baha Mar hotel project, slated to open this year.
