St Kitts is in the midst of a development boom, one Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas wants to continue to expand.

Speaking this week, Douglas said the country’s five-year plan was to attract “major investment to other rural communities” beyond the southeast peninsula and the White Gate areas.

The island has seen two major projects in recent years: the Park Hyatt St Kitts, which is currently under development, and the Kittitian Hill project, which opened its first hotel at the end of December, along with a host of smaller hotel and condominium projects currently on stream.

Douglas said the government would offer additional incentives to investors interested in pursuing investments in areas like “Cayon, Ottley’s, Molineux, and Tabernacle, Old Road, Challengers, Lamberts, Middle Island and Half Way Tree.”

The idea could get a boost from a proposed highway from the capital, Basseterre to the White Gate area.
