A private jet crashed while making an approach for landing at Grand Bahama International Airport on Sunday, authorities said.

The Lear 36 Executive Jet was carrying nine passengers; the plane was destroyed and there were no survivors, according to an update from the Bahamian government.

According to new reports, Dr Myles Munroe, the leader of Bahamas Faith Ministries, along with his wife, was one of the passengers. Munroe is one of the Caribbean’s most influential religious leaders.

It had departed from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau at around 4:07 PM local time.

“The Department of Civil Aviation has been advised  that there were some fatalities and we are awaiting confirmation from the Royal Bahamas Police Force as to whether there were any survivors,” the Ministry of Transport said in a statement. “The Grand Bahama Airport Company Crash Fire Rescue Department responded to the incident, and the Police and Bahamas Air Sea Rescue (BASRA) are presently on the scene.”

The Bahamian government said a full-scale investigation would launch Monday morning at daylight.

That probe will include the Department of Civil Aviation Aircraft Accident Investigation Prevention Unit.
