Aerospace firm UTC Aerospace Systems has invested more than $15 million and created around 200 new jobs in Puerto Rico in the last year, according to the government.
The company, which also plans to invest another $9 million in its local operations in Santa Isabel, mainly produces printed circuit boards, electric and power generation systems and temperature and flow controllers.
“UTC Aerospace Systems has a strong manufacturing presence in Puerto Rico and we’re pleased to be able to expand upon it and support the local economy,” said Hector Ortiz, director, Puerto Rico operations for UTC Aerospace Systems. “We extend a special thank you to Governor García Padilla and the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company for their support of our business in Santa Isabel.”
Puerto Rico has been placing a major emphasis on growing the aerospace and aviation sectors in the last two years, with investments from firms including Lufthansa, Honeywell and Seaborne.
UTC has operated in Puerto Rico since 1992. It is a unit of United Technologies Corp.
