Montserrat saw a big jump in tourist stopover arrivals in the first quarter, according to data from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The island received 2,355 stopover arrivals in the first three months of 2014, a 24.9 percent improvement over the same period in 2013.

That was buoyed by a 40.4 percent increase arrivals in the month of March, and an overall 20.5 percent increase in US tourists.

Canadian tourist arrivals jumped by 41.1 percent in the same period, while arrivals from Europe grew by 6.6 percent.

Montserrat has been on a push to reignite its tourism and investment sectors, which included the merger of the Montserrat Tourist Board and the Montserrat Development Corporation this month.

Last year, the island saw a 10 percent improvement in visitor arrivals, according to CTO data.
