Haiti will host the General Assembly of the Organization of American States next year, the regional body announced.

It will be the latest major regional event to take place in Haiti; last year, the country hosted the CARICOM Heads of Government summit, the Association of Caribbean States summit and the PetroCaribe Summit.

Haiti previously hosted the OAS General Assembly in June 1995 in Montrouis.

“Twenty years after hosting the General Assembly, the government of Haiti is proud to be able to receive you all in 2015,” Haiti Foreign Minister Duly Brutus told assembled leaders in Paraguay last week at the 44th General Assembly.

Brutus said Haiti’s hosting would be a “new opportunity to express our determination to continue to participate actively in strengthening the OAS.”

The summit will take place from June 7 to June 9 of 2015.
