Haiti President departed for an official visit to Cuba on Monday, the country’s National Palace announced.
Martelly’s visit to Havana was set to include meetings with the “highest Cuban authorities,” according to his office, with the aim of “strengthening ties of cooperation and friednship between Haiti and Cuba.”
The meeting follows a trip to Haiti last year by Esteban Lazo Hernandez, the presidnet of Cuba’s National Assembly.
Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe himself made an official visit to Havana in May 2013.
Martelly will return to Haiti on Tuesday.
