The Caribbean’s Best Sushi Restaurants

With all of the splendid, fresh seafood in the Caribbean, it’s only natural that you’d find some terrific sushi restaurants in the region. As the global popularity of sushi continues to surge, we thought we’d put together a list of the best spots for sushi in the Caribbean, from small eateries to high-end hotel outposts. Nobu — Bahamas

Its inclusion shouldn’t really a surprise, but this Bahamian outpost (at the Atlantis Resort) of world-famous sushi chef Nobu Matsuhisa is largely unmatched in its quality. Pricey, but worth the splurge.

Baz Bar — St Barth

Come for the sushi, stay for the impromptu Jimmy Buffett concert. This Gustavia institution is well known on the island for its superb sushi and for its live music — which, yes, sometimes features the famous St Barth fan.

Sushi Bar — Trinidad

It’s tucked in the lobby at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, but for those in the know, this is the sushi stop in Port of Spain. And sitting outside right on the bay only makes the experience better.

Tao — Dominica

One of the best restaurants on the island, Tao, located just outside the centre of Roseau, is a wonderful fusion of sushi and tapas in a refined, lounge-style atmosphere.

Tokyo Bay — Anguilla

This eatery at the food-focused CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa in Anguilla is sleek, modern and focused on fresh, local catches and simple, scrumptious rolls and sashimi.

Carambola Beach Club — St Kitts

Located on the beautiful southeastern peninsula of St Kitts, this beachfront restaurant doesn’t just serve sushi, but it has its own excellent Sushi Menu featuring great rolls and fresh sashimi.

Sophia’s Caribbean Sushi Bar — Puerto Rico

Rincon, Puerto Rico is a Caribbean town with a cosmopolitan flair, and it’s not surprising to find a great sushi restaurant there. The relatively new Sophia’s emphasizes its fresh-caught fish, all under the supervision of executive chef Joerick Rivera.

Taikun — Grand Cayman

The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman is one of the region’s top hotels for food — largely due to the presence of Blue by Eric Ripert. And Taikun lives up to the standard, with serious sushi in a decidedly elegant setting.

Dashi — St Croix

Wahoo sashimi, porkbelly rolls — this Christiansted eatery is nothing if not creative. It even gives you the option of creating your own roll — any ingredients you choose.

Samurai — Dominican Republic

This sushi restaurant in the Dominican Republic’s capital has been around for more than two decades, and it’s still going strong. While it also specializes in other kinds of Japanese cuisine (including hibachi) it’s sushi that remains the star of the show.
