Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persadi-Bissessar has arrived in China for an official visit to the country.

Persad-Bissessar arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport on Monday, greeted by China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Xie Hangsheng.

The Prime Minister is leading a delegation including Foreign Minister Winston Dookeran, Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine and other officials.

Speaking to the media after her arrival, Persad-Bissessar said she hoped to discuss isues including energy, trade, tourism and health.

Trindiad’s investment promotion agency, InvesTT, is hosting a business forum in China this week as well.

The high-level visit, which will include head-to-head talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, follows a similar trip to China by Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller earlier this year.

The PM will additionally be opening Trinidad and Tobago’s new Embassy in China.

Persad-Bissessar will conclude the trip on Feb. 28.

It is the first time a head of government of Trinidad and Tobago has visited China in three decades.

The two countries have had diplomatic relations since 1974.
