Montserrat’s tourism sector continues to improve, according to the latest data from the island’s Statistics Department.

It’s the latest boost for an island that has been steadily working to improve its tourism infrastructure, highlighted by the ongoing Little Bay development project.

Tourist arrivals to Montserrat grew by 14.5 percent in the first 11 months of the year compared to the same period in 2012, the department said.

A total of 5,151 tourists visited Montserrat last year, up from 4,498 tourists in 2012. The department did not release data on the origin countries of the tourist arrivals.

July was the island’s strongest month, with a total of 841 visitors, up from 524 in that month in 2012. October was Montserrat’s weakest month, with 394.

Montserrat has a population of around 5,200 people.
