The new Westin Puntacana Resort & Club has officially opened in the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana region.

The property, which was built at a cost of around $59 million, has 200 rooms and suites. It includes a Six Senses Spa, the “Anani,” “Playa Blanca” and “Brassa Grill & Bar restaurants.

The resort also includes three bars: a cigar bar, tiki bar and lobby bar.

Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina was on hand for the inauguration ceremony late last week, joined by a group of Cabinet Ministers.

The property was built on schedule, having broken ground at the beginning of this year. It replaces the former Puntacana Resort & Club, which was located adjacent to the site.

The project will generate “hundreds of direct and indirect jobs,” Medina said.
