Sandals has pushed back the opening of its resort in Grenada to Dec. 21.

The resort had originally been set to open on Dec. 12. A company spokesperson told Caribbean Journal that the delay was due to “adverse weather conditions and other operational challenges.”

“This is a profound disappointment and we sincerely regret the impact this delay will have on our guests, our partners and team members in Grenada,” Sandals CEO Adam Stewart said in a statement.

Stewart also announced the decision in an email to those who had booked stays beginning on the 12th.

“Sandals LaSource Grenada is without question the most innovative project in our company’s history and the resort is the pinnacle of engineering and design which will set new standards of hospitality,” he wrote in the email. “The level of work required to create such a resort is immense and the team on the ground has been working tirelessly to ensure that we provide the award-winning holiday our guests paid for. However, throughout this project, we have been badly hampered by adverse weather conditions, particularly during the last few weeks, that have slowed our progress.”

The company said it would offer the relocation of existing bookings to any of its other Sandals, Beaches or Grand Pineapple properties, including “any associated airfare change fees,” along with a complementary return stay at the property.

“I would like to personally thank you for your continued support as we enter this exciting chapter of Grenadian hospitality together,” Stewart wrote.
