Taiwan is continuing its financial support to St Lucia with a $775,436 grant for the government’s capital programme.

The grant, which works out to EC $2 million, will target projects including the lighting of the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux-Fort and several other playing fields; the construction of “Community Access Centres” in Vieux-Fort and Micoud and the development of a Block-Making facility at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

St Lucia Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony accepted the cheque from Taiwanese Ambassador James Chang last week, in turn presenting the funds to the office of the Accountant General.

Last month, Taiwan’s government presented a cheque for about $1.1 million to fund a series of infrastructural projects.

In a statement, Anthony expressed his “deepest gratitude” to the government and people of Taiwan.
