The San Juan Marriott in Puerto Rico has named Joaquin Cruz its new director of sales and marketing.

A 20-year veteran of the industry, Cruz returns to the San Juan Marriott after previously working at the property in a stint that began as sales manager in 1998.

“We are delighted to have Joaquin back at the San Juan Marriott, now in the role of director of sales and marketing.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing and with our Marriott brand,” said Hans-Georg Roehrbein, general manager of the San Juan Marriott, in a release. “As he is already familiar with the San Juan market and property itself, I have no doubt that he will transition into our team seamlessly and be a crucial player in expanding upon our property’s success.”

A native of Puerto Rico, Cruz was most recently the director of sales and marketing at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa and the CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resoert in Mexico.

“This is truly a homecoming for me. Being born and raised in Puerto Rico, and beginning my Marriott career at this exact property, it’s a perfect fit and a perfect time for me to return,” Cruz said. “I’ve grown tremendously since I was here 15 years ago and have a wide reaching range of experience that I’m eager to bring back to this dynamic hotel.”
