Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Dr Baldwin Spencer has announced a small ministerial realignment.

The Prime Minister has named Senator Mervyn Richards as Minister of State with responsibility for Sports and Recreation, the Boys Training School and the School Meals Programme, while shifting former Minister of State for Sports Senator Winston Williams to Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister.

In a statement, the government said the move was “strategically designed to reinforce the overall effectiveness of the two Ministries.”

“Senator Williams has done an excellent job at the helm of the Sports Portfolio and has always expressed a desire to function in as many arms of the government as possible,” Spencer said in a statement. “I am equally confident that he will approach his new appointment with the same energy and high level of desire to serve as he did in his previous appointment.”

Dr Jacqui Quinn-Leandro remains the Minister responsible for Sport, the Boys Training School and the School Meals Programme.

The appointments take effect today.
