LIAT has returned one of its new ATR planes to service after grounding it for technical issues.

The ATR 72 had been grounded in Barbados for about a week due to a “technical issue that has now been resolved,” the company said in a statement.

“Nothing is more important to us than the security and safety of our passengers,” said Ian Brunton, LIAT’s CEO. “Unfortunately, in the aviation business aircraft, both old and new, experience technical issues from time to time, but safety is our major concern and we apologize that our passengers were inconvenienced, especially during the peak summer season.”

The ATR 72 is one of two the company recently acquired as part of a fleet modernization.

LIAT is in the midst of replacing all of its Dash 8 planes with ATRs.

This week, LIAT anticipates delivery of its third new ATR, one of 12 new planes the company will be bringing to service.
