A Punta Cana in Haiti?

Could Haiti eventually be home to a tourism development on the scale of the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana?

Haiti Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin recently held a working meeting with Frank Ranieri, the president of regional tourism giant Grupo Punta Cana.

The talks reportedly covered tourism development plans in Haiti’s Cotes-de-Fer area, according to a statement from the Ministry.

It’s not yet clear the scope of any proposed project, but any potential investment by Grupo Punta Cana would represent a significant injection of tourism know-how and development into Haiti.

Ranieri famously developed the Punta Cana tourism hub in the Dominican Republic, including the Punta Cana International Airport.

This week, a delegation from Grupo Punta Cana joined the Ministry of Tourism for a visit to Cotes-de-Fer, which is located on Haiti’s southeastern coast.
