Caribbean Hotel Occupancy Declines

Caribbean hotel occupancy fell 1.2 percent in June, the first month regional occupancy fell year-over-year since November of 2010, according to a new report from STR.
Hotel occupancy in the Caribbean fell to 65.6 percent, down from 66.4 percent in June 2012.
Average daily rates in the region rose 1.7 percent to $167.35, however, while revenue per available room rose by 0.4 percent to $109.83.
For the year to date, Caribbean hotel occupancy is still up 2.7 percent, standing at 71.7 percent.
Last June, hotel occupancy saw its best month of the year, with a 12.4 percent year-over-year increase.
STR’s data covers a total of 1,882 hotels and 223,310 rooms in the Caribbean region.
