United Airlines has officially begun operating service to St Lucia from its hub at Newark’s Liberty International Airport.

The company operated its first flight on Saturday on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

“St Lucia, United’s 17th destination in the Caribbean, is a very welcome addition to our network — and just in time for customers to enjoy a great summer getaway,” said Milagros Uriarte, United’s director, Latin America Onshore & Caribbean Sales, in a company release.

The flights depart Newark on Saturdays at 8:55 AM, with return flights to Newark beginning at 2:38 PM on Saturdays.

United first announced the new service in April. Its vacation arm, United Vacations, added St Lucia as a destination in May through MLT Vacations.
