Ivar Asjes will lead a new government in Curacao, following his swearing-in last week.

Asjes succeeds Daniel Hodge as Prime Minister, who had been serving on a provisional basis since 2012.

Asjes’ installation as PM came one month after the assassination of Helmin Wiels, a lawyer and the former leader of Pueblo Soberano, in a drive-by shooting in May. Asjes took over as leader of Pueblo Soberano following the incident.

He leads a coalition government including Pueblo Soberano, PAIS, PNP and independent member of Parliament Glenn Sulvaran.

Asjes is the fourth Prime Minister in Curacao’s history.
