Haiti gathered to celebrate Flag Day on Saturday, marking the 210th anniversary of the creation of Haiti’s flag.

Haiti’s flag was created in 1803, one year before its independence in 1804.

Haiti President Michel Martelly, joined by First Lady Sophia Martelly, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, government officials and parliamentarians, visited a ceremony to mark the day in the city of Archahaie.

In a statement, Martelly called Haiti’s flag a “symbol of cooperation.”
