Jamaican Ambassador to the United States Stephen Vasciannie paid a visit to the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Fla. last week.

The Ambassador, who is also the former principal of Jamaica’s Norman Manley Law School, is the second major Jamaican official to visit the school in the last two years, following a 2011 visit by current Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips.

In a speech to a standing-room-only crowd of students and faculty, Vasciannie discussed some of the major priorities of the Jamaican government, including the proposed logistics hub project, a renewed anti-crime push and the need to engage the Jamaican diaspora.

He also spoke about Westminster constitutional model and its relation to Jamaica’s stability.

He was invited by the university’s Caribbean Law Programme, which is led by Adjunct Professor David Rowe, a native of Jamaica and periodic Op-Ed Contributor to Caribbean Journal.

Vasciannie is also Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States.
