Dominica has received Canada’s new Ambassador to the country, Richard Hanley.

The new envoy, who will be based in Barbados as Canada’s High Commissioner, said he was confident that the two countries would “continue to work together as friends toward a more prosperous and secure hemisphere.”

Dominica President Eliud Williams said Dominica has been benefiting from Canada in several ways, including through cultural, economic and commercial ties.

According to Hanley, Dominica will participate in the PROPEL (Promotion of Regional Opportunities for Produce Through Enterprise and Linkages) programme, which increases sales of fresh produce by small-scale local producers to high-value markets.

Canada is working through the Canadian Hunger Foundation on the five-year, $19 million project.

“It is a great honour for me to serve Canada in this beautiful country and I look forward to working with the people and Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the enhancement of a strong and productive relationship in the years ahead,” Hanley said.

The Ambassador succeeds Ruth Archibald.
