Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court’s First Female Chief Justice Confirmed

Justice Janice Mesadis Pereira has been named the first female Chief Justice in the history of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, according to Montserrat Governor Adrian Davis.
Davis received a letter last week from Pereira notifying him that her appointment had been confirmed. The notice included a copy of Letters Patent signed by the Queen at the end of September.
Pereira, a native of Virgin Gorda, succeeds Sir Hugh Rawlins, a native of Nevis.
A former High Court Judge for the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Pereira also served on the Court of Appeal and as Acting Chief Justice beginning in August.
She obtained her law degree with honours from the University of the West Indies.
