Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe met with United Kingdom Foreign Secretary William Hague in London, where he is leading the Haitian delegation to the Olympic Games.

“The UK has a strong interest in supporting Haiti on the road to stability, development and prosperity,” Hague said. “We want to deepen our political dialogue with the government of Haiti, and forge a partnership in trade and investment.”

The visit came just over a month after the United Kingdom formally announced that it would be opening its first diplomatic mission, an Embassy, in the country since 1966.

“In the spirit of growing friendship and partnership, it was a pleasure to welcome Prime Minister Lamothe today,” he said. “We had excellent and warm discussions, and look forward to strengthening the growing links between our two countries.”

In a statement, Lamothe said he did not want to miss any opportunity to show Haiti’s international partners the new challenges facing the country.
