Jamaica and China have signed an agreement for the latter to provide military aid.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Jamaica’s Ministry of National Security.

It was announced at a press briefing by Information Minister Sen. Sandrea Falconer at Jamaica House Wednesday.

The contract for $1.55 million (approximately J$136 million), which was sealed in May 2012, includes the supply of uniforms, materials for uniforms, ballistic helmets, vests, boots and tents.

The agreement follows $1.1 million deal signed by Jamaica and China in 2011, one of the largest military aid packages Jamaica has received.

The previous deal was said to provide “logistical support,” Major General Antony Anderson of the Jamaica Defence Force said at the time.
