Grenada Foreign Minister Karl Hood has tendered his resignation, in the second high-profile departure from the ruling National Democratic Congress in less than a month.

Former Tourism Minister Peter David resigned April 30, replaced by Dr George Vincent.

Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has accepted Hood’s resignation, and wished him well in his future endeavours, according to a spokesperson for the Prime Minister.

The resignation came after rumours that Hood had already resigned last week after a visit with the Governor General. Those rumours were denied at the time.

In his capacity as Foreign Minister, Hood had gained international praise for his work on climate change, highlighted by the country’s leadership at the Durban Climate Conference.

Thomas will address the nation Thursday night on the matter.

The Prime Minister survived a no-confidence motion brought by the Opposition New National Party Tuesday.

David voted in support of Thomas, despite making some criticism of his leadership during the vote. One NDC member, former Environment Minister Michael Church, voted in support of the motion.

Hood abstained during the vote.
