A Cuban vessel with 28 people on board landed Wednesday afternoon in Cayman Brac, the government announced.

There were 27 males and one female on board the ship, which developed problems with its rudder in Cayman territorial waters. It was also reportedly low on fuel at the time.

Immigration officers from Grand Cayman are currently in Cayman Brac to assist with processing and other formalities.

All of those on board will remain in government housing on Cayman Brac until they can be escorted to Grand Cayman.

The government said it had notified all relevant and authorized persons who will be assisting with the care and security of the migrants.
