Haiti’s President Michel Martelly, who returned to Miami Monday for further tests after suffering postoperative complications from shoulder surgery, has suffered a pulmonary embolism.

That diagnosis was confirmed by medical examinations, according to the National Palace, although it said his health was stable.

A pulmonary embolism is the sudden blockage of the lung’s main artery, or one of its branches.

The National Palace said it would continue to keep the public informed on Martelly’s status.

The name and location of Martelly’s Miami-area hospital have not been disclosed by the government.
