Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez has inaugurated two housing projects in the Samana and Maria Trinidad Sanchez provinces with a total investment of approximately $3.1 million.

The projects, Invi-Villa Progreso en Samana and Invi-Villa Progreso-El Factor de Maria Trinidad Sanchez, were built by the National Housing Institute, each consist of 64 residential units.

Fernandez’ government has invested almost $11.7 million in the housing sector in the Samana region, the President said.

The homes are intended for low-income families and those living at risk, and are the first stage of a nationwide housing programme by the NHI.

Funds for the project came from an agreement between the Dominican Republic and the Caracas-based CAF Development Bank of Latin America.

The communities were designed by architect Alma Fernandez. They also include a nearly $1 million educational centre.
