Haitian President Michel Martelly said the Presidential Motorcade was attacked by “troublemakers” today shortly after 3PM.

According to Martelly’s office, the attack occurred from the University of Haiti’s Faculty of Ethnology while Martelly roamed the area of the Champs de Mars in Port-au-Prince on foot.

Martelly was accompanied by carnival bands, performing as the country prepares for its National Carnival this weekend in the city of Les Cayes.

The government said all necessary measures had been taken to ensure Martelly’s safety.

Martelly warned “manipulators” that “carry messages of incitement to violence,” and called for all citizens to unite and respect the law and democratic principles.

The incident reportedly a few men throwing small stones, according to the President’s office.
