Guyana Sees Drop in Murders, Increase in Armed Robberies: Report

Guyana saw a drop in murders in January, with a 65 percent drop compared to January 2011, but it saw a 40 percent increase in armed robberies, according to a report from the Guyana Police Force.

There were 74 reports of armed robberies in Guyana last month, compared to 53 in the same period last year. More armed robberies involved the use of of firearms, according to the Police.

There were a total of 17 murders in the country in January, up from 6 in the same period in 2011.

Road fatalities fell as well, with a 38 percent drop compared to last January.
