Dominica and the Bahamas are among the top 10 “Best Ethical Destinations” in the developing world, according to a report by EthicalTraveler.org.

The report rates countries on a series of factors, including environmental protection, social welfare and human rights.

“It’s always an honour to compile this list,” said Jeff Greenwald, executive director of Ethical Traveler, said in a statement. “It gives us great pleasure to express our admiration for these countries, and we hope they’ll reap real and economic social benefits as a result of our endorsement.”

Greenwald said he was seeing a trend toward green practices and support for sustainable tourism, something he called a “a fantastic development.”

Dominica was on the list last year; this was the first time for the Bahamas.

Ethical Traveler is a nonprofit organized, founded in 1996 by Greenwald, which seeks to use “the economic clout of tourism to protect human rights and the environment.”
