The government of South Korea will be providing $470,000 to Grenada to help the country with a coastal management initiative.

The aid package is part of an agreement signed between Grenadian Environment Minister Joseph Gilbert and a seven-member delegation from South Korea.

Gilbert is also Grenada’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Development.

The two countries focused their talks on environmental matters, particularly coastal and marine management issues.

“The signing of this ‘Agreement in Principle’ commences the implementation of a 13-month project which is valued at $470,000,” Gilbert said. “It follows the submission of a project concept to the Korean authorities and an initial scoping visit to Grenada by Korean officials earlier this year.”

The project will be executed in three phases, including research on oceanography and sedimentology, provision of equipment and, ultimately, training for Grenadian experts in South Korea.

The Korean team included Oh Sae Cheol, Head of the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Haiti and Kim Youngsoo, an official of South Korea’s embassy in Port of Spain.
