New St Lucia Prime Minister Kenny Anthony said he would place an emphasis on developing the “human resource” of the state, aiming to allow citizens to explore their full potential.

“We have already signaled our intention to introduce universal pre-school education on the heels of the Universal Secondary Education during this term of office,” he said. “We also plan to improve performance at the primary and secondary school levels, while increasing the number of young people who benefit from a tertiary education.”

Anthony said the education sector was closely linked to human resource development, which involves both long and short term power training.

The government has amalgamated the Labour and Education ministries in a bid to capitalize on this connection, he said.
