Clinton: Haiti Could be Regional Leader

Haiti has the potential to be an economic leader in the Caribbean, former US President Bill Clinton said at the annual forum for his Clinton Global Initiative. While Haiti has the highest electricity rates in the Caribbean, this is offset by its promise as a source of affordable labor, he said, along with its potential for green energy. “If we maximised their potential for hydropower, for agricultural waste and for solar and for wind — you did it all — then you can have backup generators on the days the wind did not blow and the sun did not shine,” he said. “But the cost for manufacturers and for all other businesses would drop dramatically.
