Trinidad Arrests Rise to Nearly 1,600

Another 92 people were arrested in Trinidad by Thursday morning, bringing the total number of arrests during the country’s State of Emergency to 1,597.

Of those, 437 were gang-reltaed, 287 involved drug offences, 357 involved serious offences and 36 were part of homicide investigations.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced at the beginning of this week that the State of Emergency would be extended for another three months.

Since the State of Emergency was declared Aug. 21, 100 people have been arrested for breaching the nighttime curfew in the country.

The government has now seized 2,017 rounds of ammunition and 62 firearms have been seized.
