Bahamas’ Margaritaville Resort Project Relaunching Construction

A spokesperson for the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board told Caribbean Journal Invest (CJI) on Thursday that the much-anticipated Margaritaville Beach Resort in Nassau, The Bahamas will resume construction on May 11 with plans to open in the summer.

The resort, like all Caribbean resorts under construction in March, had its building plans delayed by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It is the centerpiece of a major project in the heart of downtown Nassau called The Pointe. The project also includes a residential resort component called One Particular Harbour.

In fact, Margaritaville Beach Resort was just one of 133 hotel projects stalled in the Caribbean due to the coronavirus, according to stats provided by Frank Comito, CEO and director general of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), back in April.

Comito, who credited all statistics to STR, said about 15,000 hotel rooms were under construction and about 15,000 hotel rooms were in the early stages of development.

The Margaritaville Beach Resort will be located at The Pointe in Nassau. Located on seven acres, the 284-room resort will feature an open-air shopping concourse, a movie theater, a bowling alley, a cascading water pool, a spa and a private beach.

Aside from the Bahamas, it appears as though other Caribbean islands are beginning their reopening plans. Turks and Caicos recently announced it has begun a phased reopening of the destination. The plan, which launched May 4, is headlined by the reopening of beaches — with strict social distancing in place.
