How Top Caribbean Resorts Are Building Padel Courts

By: Caribbean Journal Staff

It’s one of the fastest-growing sports, if not the fastest in the world: Padel, a sport similar to the similarly-sizzling pickle ball. Played on a walled-up court with a playing style a bit like a combination of squash and tennis. And one company is leading the Caribbean movement: Agile Courts, which has long built some of the top pickle ball and tennis centers at resorts around the region and is now at the forefront of padel, too. To learn more, we talked to Mikel Bauer Campbell, program manager at Agile Courts Construction.

Talk about the growth of Padel.

Padel is actually said to be the fastest growing sport in the world, and is one of the most popular ways to stay fit and have fun. Since its inception in Mexico back in the 1960’s, it has boomed in popularity all throughout Europe and the UK, also quickly winning the hearts of many Americans and sports fanatics alike. With Padel having aspects of tennis, squash and badminton, it’s no wonder why any racquet sport enthusiast wouldn’t quickly enjoy themselves.

Where are your upcoming projects?

We have upcoming projects in the Bahamas, Barbados, St. Maarten, Jamaica, Antigua/Barbuda, Mexico, and the Cayman Islands.

What makes your padel courts different?

padel

We at Agile Courts have teamed up with AFP courts, (partnered with adidas), which is one of Spain’s longest running and most esteemed padel manufacturers.  We are currently the only aluminium padel court distributor in the Caribbean market.  Properly treated, high-grade aluminium is the only answer to the salty, humid environment found on the island chain, guaranteeing against corrosion and promising a fresh looking court for many future years of use.

Which markets are you looking at?

Agile Courts is proud to be the exclusive distributor for the entire Caribbean region.  Architects for new hotel projects, existing sports clubs, and luxurious private estates all over the region have shown keen interest in this new sport.

Why is the company so well positioned to build padel courts?

With our over 50 years of sports court experience in the Caribbean, combined with our Florida warehousing capabilities, we are excited to add padel to our long list of sports offered.

Where do you see padel going in the next few years?

As the sport of padel continues to grow all over Europe, UK and US,  we are projecting a large surge of popularity to wash across the Caribbean as well. We have no doubt it will be a highly demanded court to play on by many visiting guests  and local sports enthusiast alike.

We continue to uphold our proud motto of “Quality Still Exists”, and aim to continue that with our introduction of top quality padel courts to the Caribbean.
