American Airlines Is Ramping Up Its Bahamas Flights for the Holidays
The beach at Treasure Cay might look the same, but something’s different. It’s easier to get here now—easier to slip away into a quieter kind of holiday, where the mornings are slower and the turquoise horizon doesn’t blink.
Just in time for the winter season, American Airlines is ramping up service to two of the most beloved Out Islands of The Bahamas — Marsh Harbour in Abaco and North Eleuthera — offering more options for travelers seeking an escape that feels both remote and deeply connected.
Starting December 18 through January 5, American will fly three times daily to each destination from its Miami hub, adding critical lift for what is traditionally one of the busiest times of year.
It’s a clear sign that demand for The Bahamas’ quieter corners is growing.
And there’s something special about these routes. They connect you with places that still feel undiscovered, even when you’re walking on well-loved sand. If you’ve been to the Out Islands, you know the difference: the charm, the cool, the laid-back, secluded beauty.
A Closer Look at the Holiday Schedule:
Marsh Harbour, Abaco (MHH): expanded to three daily flights for the holiday period
North Eleuthera (ELH): Increased to three daily flights for the holiday period
From Miami, it’s a flight of under an hour to each — and then you’re walking out of a small airport and into the kind of Bahamian beauty that doesn’t need an introduction.
In Marsh Harbour, that might mean setting off for Hope Town, where candy-colored cottages line the harbor. In North Eleuthera, it might mean hopping a water taxi to Harbour Island for brunch in Dunmore Town or a stroll down Pink Sand Beach before sunset.
And if you’re looking for where to stay? We have two favorites right now:
Where to Stay in Abaco: Bluff House Beach Resort and Marina, Green Turtle Cay
You don’t stay here to be seen—you stay to breathe. Tucked between a private beach and the quiet waters of White Sound, Bluff House is one of the oldest hotels in the Out Islands, but it doesn’t feel old. It feels right. The rooms are spacious and breezy, the marina is full of life, and the beach bar serves up unforgettable sunsets with each Goombay Smash. It’s classic Abaco, in the best possible way.
Where to Stay in North Eleuthera: The Dunmore, Harbour Island
It’s pink sand in the morning, champagne in the afternoon, and rattan ceilings under a Bahamian moon. The Dunmore is the definition of jet-set luxury — elegant without trying, private without feeling closed off. From the vintage-chic design to the oceanfront pool to the view you never want to leave, it’s a place where holiday traditions quietly evolve into something a little more barefoot and a lot more meaningful.
Whether you’re headed for a boutique villa, a beachfront cottage, or just a few unplugged days in a place where December looks like June, these new flights offer more flexibility—and a new reason to book that holiday escape now.
