A sea turtle surfaces off Grace Bay. A ray glides over a white-sand bottom in Antigua. In Bonaire, you can look straight through the water and pick out coral formations beneath your board.

The Caribbean remains one of the world’s best places for stand-up paddleboarding.

Warm water year-round, extensive barrier reefs, protected bays and miles of shallow coastline create ideal conditions for everyone from first-timers to experienced paddlers. Some destinations offer long paddles through mangrove channels. Others deliver calm turquoise water where you can spend hours exploring beaches, cays and marine parks.

These are the Caribbean destinations that stand out right now.

Seven Mile Beach is calm and perfect.

Seven Mile Beach, Cayman Islands

Few places in the Caribbean are better suited to stand-up paddleboarding than Seven Mile Beach.

The famous stretch of sand on Grand Cayman combines calm water, exceptional visibility and miles of shoreline that are easy to explore from a board. The water remains shallow close to shore, with shades of blue that range from bright turquoise to deep sapphire as you paddle along the coast.

Early in the day, conditions are often ideal, with smooth water and unobstructed views across the Caribbean Sea. As you paddle, you’ll pass beachfront resorts, anchored boats and long stretches of white sand that have made Seven Mile Beach one of the region’s most celebrated beach destinations.

The beach’s length is one of its biggest advantages. You can spend a quick hour on the water or set out on a longer paddle, exploring different sections of the coastline while staying within sight of shore. Equipment rentals and guided excursions are widely available, making it one of the easiest places in the Caribbean to add paddleboarding to your vacation.

Where to Stay

The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman fronts one of the best stretches of Seven Mile Beach and offers direct access to the calm water that makes the area so popular with paddleboarders. The Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa offers another outstanding base, with a wide beachfront location on the northern end of Seven Mile Beach and easy access to some of Grand Cayman’s clearest water.
