Carnival Cruise Line Just Unveiled a New Pool Area at Its Destination on Roatan Island

Carnival Cruise Line has a new look in Roatán — and a brand-new place to swim.

The cruise line just debuted a new logo and a sprawling new pool complex called Mangrove Bay at Isla Tropicale, its exclusive destination on the Honduran island of Roatán, in the latest sign of how seriously Carnival is investing in its private Caribbean ports.

Mangrove Bay adds 48,000 square feet of recreational space to the destination, anchored by Isla Tropicale’s very first pool area. The new zone includes a dedicated kids splash pad, a swim-up bar and adjacent bar service, giving families and adults alike a reason to stay ashore a little longer.

At the heart of the design is a peninsula lined with cabanas and loungers, creating a more premium, resort-style space for guests. Poolside daybeds round out the offering, adding another way to settle in for a full beach day in the Western Caribbean.

As for which ships call there: Isla Tropicale is a regular stop for some of Carnival’s biggest and newest vessels, including Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee — the line’s flagship Excel-class trio — along with ships like Carnival Dream and Carnival Legend on western Caribbean itineraries. Fittingly, it was Carnival Jubilee that became the first ship to deliver guests to the newly expanded destination on opening day.

“Isla Tropicale marks another exciting investment in the largest group of exclusive cruise destinations, Paradise Collection by Carnival,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “New features, including the destination’s first pool area, will elevate the guest experience at Isla Tropicale. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Roatán and Honduras and expanding our positive economic impact in the region.”

Isla Tropicale, which features two berths capable of handling Carnival’s largest Excel- and Vista-class ships, has become one of the cornerstones of the line’s growing collection of private and semi-private destinations. The destination is home to 52 shops, local artisan kiosks, three restaurants, four bars, a scenic chairlift and oceanview cabanas.

The Mangrove Bay debut is the newest chapter for a destination with deep roots in the region. Since opening in 2009 as Mahogany Bay, the newly renamed Isla Tropicale has represented a $93 million investment in Roatán, welcomed close to nine million visitors and generated $750 million in economic impact, supporting more than 1,300 local jobs.

It has also earned a reputation for its beach. Isla Tropicale’s beach received the Honduras Blue Flag Award along with a five-star rating in both 2024 and 2025, recognized for excellence in environmental management, water quality, safety, accessibility and sustainable tourism.

For Honduras, the continued investment underscores just how central cruise tourism has become to the island’s economy.
