Anguilla has a new leader at the helm of its tourism authority.

The Anguilla Tourist Board announced this week that Sean Richard will take over as Chairman effective June 1, succeeding Cecile Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch, who will remain on the board as a director. The board also welcomed a new member, Lockhart Hughes, as part of a broader leadership transition.

The appointments were confirmed by Cardigan Connor, Anguilla’s Minister of Health, Tourism and Sports, who framed the changes as part of the government’s ongoing push to sharpen governance and strategic oversight across the destination’s tourism sector.

“These appointments represent an important step in advancing the strategic leadership and governance framework of the Anguilla Tourist Board,” Connor said. “As Anguilla continues to strengthen its position as one of the Caribbean’s premier luxury destinations, strong and effective board leadership remains essential.”

Richard arrives with more than two decades in tourism and luxury hospitality. He currently serves as general manager of TEI Anguilla, operating as Altamer Luxury Villas, and has held executive roles at the Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club and CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa. He previously chaired the Anguilla Social Security Board from 2015 to 2020.

“It is an honour to serve as Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board at such an exciting and progressive time for Anguilla’s tourism industry,” Richard said, adding that he intends to work with government, industry partners and stakeholders to “further strengthen Anguilla’s global brand, enhance visitor experiences, and support the sustainable advancement of the destination.”

Hughes, the board’s newest director, is general manager of the Carimar Beach Club and has held leadership roles at Aurora Anguilla and Belmond Cap Juluca. It marks a return for Hughes, who served on the board from 2017 to 2019, working on destination marketing and the expansion of the island’s source markets.

Connor thanked Vanterpool-Kubisch for her service as chair, saying her leadership “helped guide the board during an important period” and that the government was pleased she would continue contributing as a director.

The reshuffle comes as Anguilla continues to position itself among the Caribbean’s top-tier luxury destinations, with the board signaling a continued focus on destination marketing, stakeholder partnerships and elevating the visitor experience.
